I recently returned from a brief girls trip and now that I’m back, I know that basking in the sun wouldn’t have been this cool without these 6 things.

Floppy Hats

The wider the brim, the better as your entire face and shoulders will be shielded from the relentless rays.

Regardless of your complexion, sunscreen is an essential one cannot do without on long days out.

A large part of enjoying the summer sun includes protecting everything that needs protecting, your eyes included. Also, you can choose as many options as you like.

This, I found to be the perfect cover-up for the walks from my room to the pool. It also provided comfort and protection when the sun felt too harsh on my body.

Bottled water

Long days in the sun require a heavy dose of hydration. Water is always the best option and less sugar you consume on a warm day, the better you’ll feel.

Pool float

This device takes the number one spot. It allows you to ease into the water and enjoy a good read.

The truth is, we all love a great Instagram shot and while there are many factors to be considered when creating posts, a study that was conducted by Nat Geo, entitled The most popular Instagram posts revealed that the determining factors of quality post rest not only in a Grammer’s editing skills or clever use of words, but in the choice of location too.

The study showed that places that evoke feelings of wanderlust and curiosity are instant attention grabbers.

While there is no proven formula to success, it is safe to say that a solid choice of backdrops will do wonders for your summer posts and overall profile.

So, from blue waters to the spaza around the corner, here are 4 places we recommend you make the use of, to help push your posts to the top.

The nautical experience: Okay, this option may come across as a little extra, however if fortune favours you and allows you access to a boat or a yacht, then our advice is; use it! The wanderlust factor will instantly make your post a hit.

Supermarkets and flower spots: The beauty in these options is that you don’t have to go far and wide to snap great content and usually these stores offer endless options to coordinate your looks to your favourite food, beverages and flower arrangements. You can think of them as the prepared sets you don’t have to pay for. Another thing- trolleys are insanely great as props too.

High in the sky on a rooftop:  Naturally, these are the best because every major city has a list of them and they usually come standard with spectacular views. So the next time you’re in search of a winning location, remember that some of the best are a couple of storeys high.

Whether you love or hate it, embrace or fear it; neon is back and swiftly taking over runways, streets and feeds. We all know that, while the wild acid colours synonymous with ‘80’s are fun to sport, they can be equally as challenging to pull off. Thankfully, there is plenty of inspiration to go around from local and international stars that will help you, your bff and her mother make shocking shades something to look forward to right now. Simply give these 4 simple tricks a try.

Go sporty:

Embrace the adrenaline of motocross-inspired attire with bike shorts, fitted turtlenecks and colour blocking trousers. Accessorise with tinted sports goggles, white dad sneakers and a miniature body for a finished look.

The Extra Effect: The neon fashion phenomenon is one that gives you free reign to push the limits on extra. Pick your shocking shade and match it to your hair nails and bag and all of your little and (not so little) favourite things.

The sun is out which can only mean bare legs are in. It’s miniskirt season after all and these three A-line babies immediately won my affection.

Whether you’re opting for detail or not, A-line mini’s are always a winner!

The paperbag waist

Drawstrings are the answer to a “small waisted girl’s” prayers.

The Red Hot Vinyl

Outfit: Forever 21

Plastic is what’s up right now, so add a little vinyl to your life and layer it over some sheer.

Faux Leather and Studs

Outfit: Forever 21

Keep it classy with a touch of urban edge in a studded faux leather mini.

Every classic garment goes through its share of seasonal change and updates and this season the classic shirt has taken centre stage. From androgynous and oversized to delicate and feminine, you’ll be happy to know that there’s a shirt in every style.

While there will always be a room for the ageless white buttoned down shirt, this season’s 80’s  shirt revival is what it’s all about. Bell sleeves and larger than life ruffles are the new statement accessories. A good fitting shirt is a great investment, and I’m currently doing a happy dance for all the stylish options.

The oversized

This menswear inspired top goes down as the most comfortable shirt option for easy summer dressing. You can totally get away with wearing one as a shirt dress on the warmest days or tuck it into your trousers or skirt to give your figure some definition.

Exaggerated sleeves

Like the oversized look? Then extend it to your sleeves, by wearing a 80’s inspired flouncy bell sleeved blouse.

The asymmetric

Add a twist or a long turn to your outfit with asymmetry shirting

Off the shoulder

Be bold and show off your shoulders in an off the shoulder blouse or shirt dress.

The cold-shoulder

Is an edgy alternative to a classic button down shirt and perfectly completes a casual outfit.

The knotted shirt

This simple detail is an accessory in its own right. Play with delicate collar bows and voluminous statement knots.

Around this time last year, I attended a wedding in flats and since then have not changed my mind. For some reason I believed that heels were the only acceptable shoes to wear to weddings inspite of the pain and the discomfort they caused. I would always leave an emergency pair of flats in the car which my sore feet would always thank me for after a long day in discomfort.

It’s after too many of these bad experiences in heels that I thought to change my mind and start wearing flats to weddings, and it’s not hard to guess that I enjoy weddings for more this way, and at the end of the night, my feet are just as happy too.

So, if you like me are ready to ditch the myth about having to wear heels to a wedding, I’ve created a list of lust worthy flats that you’ll love to wear to every wedding from now on.

Summer days are here, finally! My excitement is already a dead giveaway to the fact that I’m a summer baby and this season is my favourite of the four.

Scorching hot days make for the best poolside or beach front chilling and are a great excuse to show off your delicious swimsuit collection. YAAAAS!

These are the 11 hottest swimsuit style to add to your costume treasury this season.

The Colour Blocker

What is summer without a generous dose of colour? Be tenacious while enjoying the pool in  vibrant colours.

Tropical Flare

High Leg

Get away with longer looking legs on the beach with a high-leg number.

Rise High

Add a touch of retro sophistication to your swimwear style with high waist bottoms or a halter top or both.

High waist

Details Baby

Swimsuits in 2017 are all about detail. Ranging from small tassels to flattering lace-ups. Take your ruffles to the pool too.

The Naked Swimsuit

Apparently naked dressing is too good to be left to skirts and dresses, so up your swimsuit repertoire with cut-out details, mesh and crochet.

Stripey Stripes

Ranging from preppy monochrome to the daring seaside alternative, it is no secret that stripes are out to play this season and we can’t enough of them.

Imagine a world where fashion prints did not exist? What a vapid world it would be. Well, imagine no more since we’re well into the season that calls for vibrant colours and bolder prints. Bold is undoubtedly beautiful this summer, and who wants to be left out on all the fun?

Use prints to easily transition your outfits from daytime summer looks to moody sensual evening looks.

You no longer have to fear contrasting prints. The half-baked idea that clashing prints are a “no go” has been kicked to the curb.

Here are five of the hottest prints that are sure to add extra heat to your summer lovin’.

Step into summer and unleash your playful side in beach ball stripes or keep it classic in pinstripes. Strike it cool in monochrome or have a party in mulitcoloured lines.

Geometric African Print

What South African summer is complete without the presence of unapologetically vibrant geometric prints? Adorn yourself from head to toe in prints that reflect the beauty of African cultures.

Take to any occasion in a floral accessories.

Animal Print

Keep your look timeless in perennial animal prints.

Nothing screams summer like an explosive tie-dye number, perfect for a beach day.
